Renting a car and need a GPS? Consider buying one! When you look at the daily rate for a GPS it may be less expensive to buy a GPS than rent one. About 9-10 days of a rental car’s GPS is the breakeven point vs. a purchase, but you’ll end up with a GPS you can use on future travels.
Hertz unknowingly led me to the decision to buy a GPS on my trip to Scotland. I had reserved a GPS at 130 pounds for 12 days. However, when I picked up the rental car there were no GPS’s available. Driving on the opposite side of the road in a different country is challenging enough and I really needed a GPS. Instead of reverting to paper maps and risk having an accident reading them while driving, I picked up a GPS at a local store for 89 pounds – and have it for future trips to the UK.
