Photo of the Week: Scotland’s Balmoral Castle

I had a weekend in between business meetings to explore several castles in Scotland, one of which was The Royal Family’s Balmoral Castle in Royal Deeside, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

The Balmoral Estate began as a home built by Sir William Drummond in 1390. Throughout the years it has been occupied by King Robert II (1316-1390), Earls of Huntly and Fife, and Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Victoria and Albert paid about £30,000 for full ownership in 1852. Balmoral is now the private summer retreat of Queen Elizabeth II and The Duke of Edinburgh.

The estate is nearly 5,000 acres. More than 20 Highland, Fell and Haflinger ponies are kept for trekking and deer retrieval during the stalking season.

If I were asked about the perfect setting for the nuptials of Prince William and Kate Middleton, it would be the grounds at Balmoral Castle.
