Six Weeks to Summer Series: Day 2 – International Flight + Lose a Day

For Day 2 of this 42-day series on Six Weeks to Summer: A Traveler’s Fitness Plan, I share how easy it is to keep calories down when you lose a day!

What do I mean?  Well, I boarding my flight to Hong Kong yesterday (Tuesday) at noon pacific time. And I just arrived at my hotel in Hong Kong at 8:00pm local time – on Wednesday!  I went to enter my food intake in my iPad app and wondered whether to enter it on Tuesday or Wednesday. Not that matters, but it’s very freaky to feel like a full day has been lost.

So my caloric intake summed up across the two days is great.  Though payback will be on my flight home when I am traveling for 30 hours across many meal times.

On my flight over, I did have a great dinner and enjoyed one glass of wine. I skipped the appetizers (carrot soup, deep fried shrimp), the bread basket, the grains and butter-laden veggies on my dinner plate as well as the ice cream sundae for dessert.  I even left the 3 balls of mozzarella cheese in my salad bowl since I’m staying away from dairy.  This one was the toughest of all as I love cheese. I drank lots and lots of water, both hot water with lemon slices and bottled water.

sixweekstosummerday2Great tip: One of the flight attendants showed me her bottle of water (with a pinkish color) and said that her secret to keeping weight off when traveling is to drink water – lots and lots of water. She said that several of the flight attendants are adding white chia seed to their water. Hmmm, white chia seed? I use black chia seeds in my smoothies but haven’t heard of white.  She said that they get it at Whole Foods.

I was hoping to walk through the aisles and get lots of leg stretches in during the flight, but we had hours of turbulence. The seatbelt sign was rarely off. Though I did do some ankle and leg stretches, held in the stomach muscles and also did deep breathing.  Something is better than nothing.

I’ve already checked out the fitness center at my hotel and I’ll get a workout in the morning. There is a scale in the bathroom so I’ll get on it in the morning and see what I weight in kilos.

Time to unwind now and act like it really is late evening so my body is tricked into going to sleep.
