On May 3rd and 4th, there will be no airplane for me. No rental car. No cruise ship. Just my two feet will be taking me along the streets of Washington D.C. as I participate in the 39-mile Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.
Why am I walking 39 miles? Because every three minutes someone in the United States is diagnosed with breast cancer. I want to do my part so no one has to face this disease again.
Aside from the physical steps, I have pledged to raise both awareness and money for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. I hope this worldwide issue calls to you and that you’ll support me in one or more of these ways:
- Join the Smart Women Travelers team and walk along with us! Or cheer us on from the sidelines if you’re in the Washington D.C. area.
- Make a monetary donation under my name or to the Smart Women Travelers team. This will help to support medical research into the possible causes of and cure for breast cancer, education and early detection programs. Whatever you can give will help!
- Add a comment below in honor of or in memoriam of one of your loved ones who heard these heart-sinking words. I will bring this list of honorees with me as I walk and keep them in my thoughts mile after mile.
- Add a comment below with words to inspire me on during this Walk.
I’ll keep you posted on the Walk with lots of photos here and on our Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook page. In the meantime, between now and the May 3rd Walk, check out these photos from my past walks in New York City and San Francisco – such awe-inspiring events!
I truly appreciate your support; you really do make a difference. Because of you, my feet keep on walking!
